Finding Nourishment
I don’t know about you guys, but the older I get, the more I find myself dealing with “brain fog.” Things just don’t seem as clear, and I often feel like I’m just going through the motions. Whether it’s from lack of sleep, poor diet, or something else, it’s frustrating to not feel as attentive to myself and my surroundings as I once was.
When this brain fog hits, sometimes lasting days at a time, and I spend time with God, I often find myself frustrated when I try to reflect on what I just read a few moments earlier. I can’t remember what I just read! It’s like the words vanished, and I’m left at a total loss. I went through the motions, but that’s about it.
Here’s the good news, though: even when it feels like nothing’s sticking, you’re still getting what you need.
Think about it, do you remember what you ate two weeks ago? Or what you had for lunch a month ago today? Probably not, and that’s okay. But you do know that you ate, and your body got the nourishment it needed. The same is true for reading the Bible, praying, and spending time with God. You don’t have to recall every verse or memorize every chapter. Sometimes all you need to do is chew on it, digest it, and let it nourish your soul.
What I’m getting at is this: there will be days when you’re not as focused or tuned in as you’d like to be, but what matters is that you’re still seeking Him. And even in that, you’re still getting the Jesus you need.
"As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it." - Isaiah 55:10–11
